About Danielle

Hello world, thank you for coming to visit my website!  My name is Danielle Pickering, I am a professional freelance proofreader and copyeditor and it is a pleasure to meet you!

I thought I would start with some useless information about myself to let you see that I am normal(ish).  I am married to an amazing man called John. We have known each other since I was fourteen and we recently got married.  He is extremely funny and I love him dearly!  I was born on a leap year (29th February – I kid you not)!  So I only have a birthday every four years…oh I know it’s so funny!  I live in Gilford, Northern Ireland and I have two beautiful nephews.  I have no siblings but I have a love for horses.  I competed at quite a high level from a young age.  I also have a beautiful tabby cat called Maud and she is my only child at the moment!

In this section, I will tell you a little bit about myself and how I have come to be where I am today.  I have loved English Literature and English Language from a young age; I recall my mum and dad reading to me for hours when I was a little girl.  My friends played with dolls and were dressing up.  I was either writing stories or reading a book in the corner…you could say I was a little odd as a child!

I went to Lurgan Junior High School, Lurgan College and then got accepted to attend Queens University, Belfast to complete my BA in English and Linguistics. Linguistics, in a nutshell, is a fancy word for the study of the English Language and phonetics.

I graduated in 2013, and started to work as a Legal Secretary.  To be honest, I fell into this position, and realised that I loved it!

I decided I wasn’t finished with education and I applied to do a MSc in Forensic Linguistics through Aston University, Birmingham.  I graduated in March 2018 with a MSc in Forensic Linguistics with a Distinction mark, which I am very proud of.

That is a little about my education…now I want to tell you about how I came to be a freelancer in this particular area.  I have been a Christian since the age of eight.  I have attended church my whole life and God has brought me on an incredible journey.  I will not deny it, there have been many valleys, but praise be to God there have also been many victories and amazing God moments.

In my personal life, I had started to get a little restless.  I had been praying asking God to reveal what it was He was trying to tell me.  I was sitting in church one evening listening to the sermon.  At that moment, everyone else seemed to disappear and I felt like the speaker was only addressing me.  He was speaking on John 21, when Jesus told Peter to cast his net on the other side of the boat and he would catch fish.  Jesus told Peter to cast his net on the other side of the boat instantly, and at this particular moment, I had never heard God’s voice so clearly in all of my life.   I then knew what he wanted me to do.

Since then, I have completed several courses in proofreading and copy-editing through the Society for Editors and Proofreaders.  I am a Member of the Society and I work for various publishing companies, including Safis Publishing. I love what I do and as you can see, I love to work for the passionate writer.  If you have a dream for a publication, nothing should stand in your way.  I would love to journey with you in bringing your dream to fruition.  My role as your Editor would be to ensure your voice is heard clearly and you convey your message as effectively as you can.

Thank you for taking the time to come and visit me online.  May God richly bless you on your venture and if I can be of any help then please get in touch!
